Great Lakes Protection/Clean Up

Since the Great Lakes Region is the third largest economic region in the world, and since the Great Lakes have serious nutrient related threats(including blue-green algae in Lake Erie), the Province of Ontario should establish a priority environmental/resource management policy related to clean up and enhancement of the Great Lakes(which make up 20% of the world's fresh water and provides drinking water for approximately ...more »

Lower electricity bills by cooperating with Quebec

By better using or even expanding our existing electricity system connections with Quebec, we can use low-cost Quebec water power (4 cents per kWh) to help meet some of Ontario’s power needs. This would be far cheaper and safer than rebuilding our aging nuclear plants (19 - 37 cents per kWh). Ontario needs to learn its lesson from a long history of nuclear projects that have seen massive cost overruns and delays, and ...more »

Ban Puppy Mills and regulate pet breeding.

I propose a complete ban of the unethical and cruel business of puppy mill breeding in Ontario. There are cruelty laws in place, but they are rarely enforced and are on a complaint based system. It is common practice to discard breeding dogs on the side of the road, where they are picked up by animal control and sent to rescue agencies or are put down if they are not adopted. The psychological effects are obvious in ...more »

Establish the FarmBelt to protect prime farmland

It is time Ontario properly protects our quickly disappearing prime farmland. The creation of a GreenBelt-esque protection for farmland would ensure that urban sprawl does not unnecessarily get built on top of the land that feeds us, and provides us with many valuable agricultural jobs. This would promote density and smart urban planning throughout the GTHA. It would also protect prime farmland from development applications, ...more »

Supporting Suburban/Downtown Subway Relief (S+DRL) line

As a party we always listen to the experts. We must listen to the experts calling on us to prioritize transit development in the GTA. Investing in Scarborough subway before the S+DRL is there to relieve the Yonge Street Subway line is foolish and while Liberals invest in Transit if we invest in the wrong transit we aren't helping. The right reasonable and responsible approach to transit.

One Transit Authority

The GTHA needs one transit authority so that Metrolinx can continue with their plans for the Big Move and GO Transit and municipal transit systems without interference from cities and plans being cancelled because of funding constraints. See other regions that have amalgamated their systems for best practices.

Water should never be privatized, EVER!

In addition to water never being privatized, I would also protect water resources including all lakes, rivers, streams, wetlands of all forms. In addition to adding, I would suggest that water and access to water is a human right and should be protected in legislation

Ban the use of Neonicotinoid Pesticides in Ontario

Ontario’s bees and pollinators are dying in massive numbers due to the pervasive use of neonicotinoid pesticides on our agricultural field crops. Fully a third of our food relies on pollinators: without bees, Ontario’s food supply could be in serious trouble. Further, these chemicals leach into soils, groundwater and waterways, and can persist for years, killing not only bees, but other pollinators, aquatic insects, amphibians ...more »
