Rental housing repairs?

This government has done next to nothing to repair the damage to landlord/tenant laws done by the Harris government. Landlords like mine get away with abusing property standards laws and ignoring orders to make repairs and yet they're given endless extensions on repair orders and allowed to raise rents both for existing tenants every year, and to charge what they please for new tenants. CLOSE THE RENT CONTROL LOOPHOLE

A so-called "two-tier system of renters", whereby condominium tenants, who rent apartments or condominiums in buildings occupied after November 1, 1991 are totally exempt from rent controls, currently exists in the Province of Ontario, and is growing worse for the aforementioned tenants. Abolish Rent Controls

Rent controls should just be abolished. In the end all they do is hurt renters. This is just basic economics. Rent controls artificially lower the rents collected by landlords. This in turn makes building new units less attractive which means less supply hits the market. The cycle creates an environment where the supply of rental units is low and rents are high. Rent Control for the Commercial Sector

There is already a maximum rent increase yearly for residential tenants in Ontario. Its time the Ontario Government implemented similar controls in the commercial sector. This would go a long way in helping small-businesses grow and prosper.
