Charge road tolls at Toronto city limits

I doubt this would prove popular, but, here goes:

 

Most of city revenue comes from personal property tax, not corporate. This goes, by in large, towards things like roads. Yet every day hundreds of thousands of people drive into Toronto, on Toronto roads to go to work, paying little for maintenance of those roads.

 

Charge tolls at the city boundaries to offset the cost.

Funding for Roads & Transportation

Tolls are not popular, but they are necessary. I'd like to see Ontario join in with the EZ Pass system which is used across many states in the north eastern US. The system already exists, it works and charges a fair toll as opposed to the 407. This toll collection method works via a transponder account or the option of a manual toll booth. No to Tolls

Say NO to roaf tolls in the GTA... just look at the problems people have with the tolls on the 407. Collecting tolls is eXPENSIVE - you need transponders and camaeras and a lot of money is wasted in administration. Plus, which roads will have tollls? The 401? Roads Downtown? Permit municipalities to impose border tolls

A large proportion of transportation infrastructure is paid for through municipal property taxes. Imposing border tolls would result in more compact land use, as it would make it more competitive for one to reside close to one's common destinations, and make the modes of transportation other than the car more competitive, reducing the externalities (air and noise pollution, sedentary lifestyle, stress, collisions, opportunity ...more »
