According to MiningWatch Canada, remote mines are required to pay 50% less in royalties to Ontario compared to non-remote mines, and new remote mines are permitted a 10-year tax holiday. Considering that northern Ontario is overrepresented in the provincial and federal legislatures, mining should receive as few subsidies as possible.
Excise taxes are typically based on the volume or quantity of the product rather than the value, resulting in an effective decrease in tax revenue if held constant over time.
The cost of an election campaign is correlated with the number of electors in a riding. So, mayoral campaigns are more costly than a city council election, resulting in the mayor being more prone to being influenced by "special interests". I propose that the mayor only have the power to sign legislation approved by the municipal legislature. The composition of committees, including chairpeople, and speaker of the legislature ...more »
Montreal, Vancouver and Victoria impose 3¢/L, 15¢/L and 3.5¢/L municipal excise taxes on gasoline, respectively, to fund public transit. This results in more compact land use (resulting in lower cost to provide government services), makes the modes of transportation which are more efficient than the automobile more competitive, reduce the pressure to use fares, sales, income or property taxes to fund transportation, and ...more »

Based on my knowledge, the costs of this change exceeded the costs of the fraud being committed, and an underground economy has allegedly emerged of lending or selling the non-photo OHIP cards. Progressive Conservatives allegedly oppose bureaucracy.
Bob Rae installed photo radar on provincial highways to catch speeding vehicles, as a more efficient means of catching individuals who were breaking the law (tough on crime) compared to the use of Ontario Provincial Police officers. Mike Harris removed them.
Tinted windows decrease the capacity to identify drivers of vehicles in potential crime cases. Quebec apparently vigorously enforce tinted windows regulations.
Some people object to being required to take the oath of allegiance due to violating their religious beliefs or opposition to hereditary privilege. The lieutenant governor, MPPs, justices of the superior courts, appellate courts and provincial courts, staff of the Ontario civil service, including crown appointees, are required to take the oath of allegiance to the queen.
I know of one person who was permitted to do their driver's test in a different county than the one they resided in due to concerns that the traffic levels would be overwhelming.
Even though the senate is federal jurisdiction, the federal government may modify its view if the residents of the most populous province, containing 39% of the population of Canada, are supportive of abolishing the senate. The constitution prevents any province from having fewer MPs than the number of senators, so the continuation of the senate effectively discriminates against Ontario. Referenda increase political participation ...more »
The public Catholic school boards are currently exempt from punishment by the Ontario human rights tribunals.
