The salaries, bonuses and retirement compensation for executives in public organizations are approaching criminal levels. Why should an executive (for example in OPG) be entitled to a million dollar salary and bonus when in most cases they are working in a monopoly organization. Homes and other residential buildings are not as energy efficient as they could be or should be. Upgrading the building code is needed for all new housing. Better insulation and energy reflective shingles (instead of the current shingles that absorb sunlight) would decrease the need to burn fossil fuels or consume electricity to heat and cool our homes.
Green energy (wind, solar and hydro) are the way of the future versus Coal, Gas and Nuclear. It is cheaper (in the long run), free (once implemented) and inexhaustible. We are still paying a premium on our hydro bills for the past investment in nuclear and no one knows how to get rid of the waste nuclear fuel rods.
McGuinty had the right idea, but fell down by contracting for a high price for green energy.
MPPs should be required to publicly list all of their expense claims, just as Elizabeth May is doing at the federal level on her web site. All receipts can be seen online. If she can do it so can all MPPs and MPs.
Nuclear energy is no longer glamorous. It is expensive to build, maintain and operate. No one has yet developed a good idea on how to deal with spent radioactive reactor rods that last for more than a thousand years.
