Enfranchise those aged 16-18

There are complaints of the lack of political participation of the younger demographic. School is highly anti-democratic while teaching civics courses which supposedly support democracy. Those aged 16-18 are permitted to earn an income, drive an automobile, serve in the military and participate in political nomination and leadership elections, amongst other rights, so why shouldn't they be enfranchised? The same arguments brought forward today were brought forward when there was consideration of reducing the voting age from 21 to 18.
