To align investment (capital and personnel) in the expansion of the trades pathways in education in order to:
a) assist student with making good career choices that will align with job availability
b) align with the needs in employment sectors
c) allow for salary and other supports such as retraining of older adults as businesses restructure to meet the changing local, national and international economic needs
d) allow for increased and more efficient portability of trades certification between provinces and other countries
e) allow for non-unionized small businesses to participate more easily in apprenticeship programs along side unionized companies
This should be done in conjunction with the promotion of trades to remove the stigma that is often attached to manual labour and investments in high school trades programs which are often too expensive for school boards to implement.
