TTC

The PC plan to take over Transit in Toronto is aGood Idea. I dont know what they feel should happen, but heres what I think. STREETCARS need to go as they are not practical and are more costly compared to buses. They travel slower and are restricted in maneuverability. Im sure everyone who has used a Streetcar has had an experience where they have almost been hit by a car or witnessed this for someone else; even with ...more »

MANDATORY CHECKING OF SEPTIC SYSTEMS ON LAKEFRONT PROPERTIES

We can help with the battle against climate change by ensuring that septic systems (particularly, but not only, on lakefront properties)are operating properly. Oh, I've heard the argument that "we've had a septic system all our lives and we know when it is not working". They (the self anointed experts) made the same claim in North Frontenac Township and, upon checking, 41% of the septic systems were found to be deficient. ...more »

A Culture of Health and a Culture of Caring: Why Ethical/Values Based Leadership in Healthcare is so Important Today

I applaud efforts to emphasize health as a collective responsibility, i.e. encouraging citizens to see themselves as active participants in preventing disease and illness and in working in partnership with their healthcare professionals to achieve the best outcome in their health and their treatment. I believe that values-based (also referred to as ethical leadership) is essential to ensuring that our patients receive ...more »

Research must include services

Recently I heard that 100 million dollars was donated to research so many who suffer with mental illness can be cured. It is extremely painful knowing that so many young adults are lost and many living on the streets but yet every time we hear about a donation it is strictly used for research. I can tell you that for many the only kind of cure they need is physically and emotionally. We are too busy trying t find answers ...more »

Limit non-disclosure agreements or allow the non-disclosure clause to be overturned

Lawsuits are often settled by the use of non-disclosure agreements - sometimes these are important to protect people's privacy, but too often they are used to prevent the public from becoming away of behaviour by corporations that are important to public saftey or to important issues. The use of such clauses has come up in areas such as sexual harassment - but this also matters in areas where products are unsafe or companies ...more »

Change police policy from shoot to kill to shoot to incapacitate

If police have to shoot a suspect why not shoot the legs instead of the torso. Often suspects turn out to be innocent. If they are shot dead it's too late. In situations where a police officer's life or any other human life is in immediate and clear danger, shoot to kill may be appropriate. Many other situations can be handled by de-escalation techniques and if firing a gun is required, then shoot at the limbs instead ...more »

Ban GMO Food

Ontario and Canada should follow the route of Europe where GMO foods are banned and we should start with GMO labeling and to also ban Monsanto products so that Canada can have fresh food free of biotechnology and cross-breeding and pesticides and herbicides. This is the best path to get the best quality products and so people can be truly healthy. Another important step for Ontario to follow is getting away from big box ...more »

Living wage for those after 18 years old unable to find work

Since citizens in Canada and the Western world are heading towards a situation where jobs are unable to be found for the average person, I think that it is incumbent upon government to fill in the gaps for anyone over the age of 18 to receive wages and living wages if they lose work, are unable to find work after a given time, and / or if people are unable to receive benefits from jobs to live. By cutting out the middle ...more »

A NEW PAID STATUTORY PROVINCIAL HOLIDAY IN JUNE

As you may be aware, the Province of Ontario currently enjoys five nationwide and four provincial paid statutory holidays. While most Ontarians enjoy these nine statutory holidays, there is a growing consensus that they deserve at least one more such statutory holiday, especially in light of the fact that other Canadian provinces and territories enjoy a total of ten statutory holidays. Double the post-Ontario community college strike compensation cap

With community college students back in school, Ontario has announced two major compensations for students. While it is a good start, many students will be overlooked. Following the end of the five-week college strike, the Government of Ontario announced two offers of compensation to community college students: a full tuition refund or $500. Students who do not wish to continue their semester will receive a full tuition ...more »

Make it mandatory for all Ontario correctional workers to wear body cameras

Body cameras have emerged across North America as a popular means of improving correctional worker accountability as well as ensuring the safety of inmates, visitors and correctional workers alike. Advocates argue that video recordings of front line correctional worker interactions with their colleagues, inmates and visitors can provide a clearer picture of what happened in a controversial incident — such as alleged mistreatment ...more »
