Inclusive Growth

The Ontario Liberal Party is committed to a thriving economy where everyone benefits from growing prosperity. Even though the economy overall is strong and growing, we know that not all people of Ontario are feeling the benefits of that growth. Our plan for fairness and opportunity must seek to foster inclusive growth through policies that support a dynamic and innovative economy. We need your best ideas about what those should be!

Research must include services

Recently I heard that 100 million dollars was donated to research so many who suffer with mental illness can be cured. It is extremely painful knowing that so many young adults are lost and many living on the streets but yet every time we hear about a donation it is strictly used for research. I can tell you that for many the only kind of cure they need is physically and emotionally. We are too busy trying t find answers ...more »

Most workers will get a salary increase below the rate of inflation at the same time corporate profits have never been so high

Ontarians are fed up with corporate Canada. The average worker in Ontario is receiving a salary increase below the rate of inflation. We hear on the news corporate profits are bustling, TSX reached ANOTHER new record high yet our salaries stay stagnant and the cost of living increases. So I think a commission should be instated that will report to the legislature on why this gap exists and what can be done to resolve ...more »

SUPPORT WOMEN'S HEALTH, HOUSING NEEDS, ECONOMIC LONGEVITY, CAREER AMBITIONS AND FAMILY PLANNING CHOICES

WHEREAS in these modern times we live in today, women should not still have to be building their careers and ensuring their financial wellbeing (for their present and future) - whilst worrying about their "biological clock" and potentially losing (or having to sacrifice) their reproductive opportunities; WHEREAS there are pressures on working men and women, however these pressures can vary greatly based on gender; WHEREAS ...more »

ESTABLISH A ‘PROVINCIAL INQUIRY AND STRATEGY FOR GENERATION X, MILLENNIALS & THE YOUNG ADULT POPULATION’

WHEREAS research has found that more than one in three millennial and young adults were living with at least one parent in 2016, a share that has been increasing since 2001 ; WHEREAS increasing numbers of parents use their finances to support their millennial and young adult children, which can overwhelm low income and middle-class parents, particularly unattached and racialized Canadians; WHEREAS data has revealed ...more »

Raise the HST to 15%

I believe that Ontarians should pay an extra two percentage point on the HST, bring it up to 15% from the current 13%, which would raise an extra $5 billion a year to keep local roads, bridges, highways, hospitals, schools, universities, community colleges, arenas and other infrastructure in better repair as well as to greatly expand such infrastructure as our population continues to undergo explosive population growth. ...more »

Make provincial trade with the BRICS a priority

With the USA retreating into economic nationalism and trade protectionism as well as hysterical xenephobic and rightwing populism - it is now more evident than ever before the extent to which Canada in general and Ontario in particular - are far too reliant on trade with the USA. We have had an unhealthy dependency on access to American markets for far too long and we have based our continued economic growth and prosperity ...more »

Technology and economic and social disruption

With sweeping advances in technology and machine learning which continue to accelerate the growth in automation, how does this impact most people’s lives in terms of purpose. The success of any strong society is determined by the amount of purpose that is engrained within each person. Without purpose, hopelessness becomes the more encompassing trait with all its negative outcomes such as a less compassionate society and ...more »

Long-term planning for youth employment

As the baby boom generation retires and expires, the world turns to the next generations to carry the torch of progress and identity. Who we are as individuals and citizens of this country should resonate at a very high frequency of self-confidence and preferred mutual social values. If we are to foster an anchored, tangible sense of inclusion/inclusiveness, avoiding isolation either as a nation or as an individual, ...more »

Liberate the market for alcohol and beer

Through the use of government power, the LCBO and the Beer Store control almost all retail sales of alcohol in Ontario. This unjustly prevents many people from creating or expanding their own business to include alcohol sales. This type of action is a clear violation of the right of citizens to engage in trade with each other for mutual benefit. We are stuck with limited outlets, limited inventory, limited hours and high ...more »
