Affordable Cost of Living

Allow modest increases to Rent Control above inflation

Allow landlords to increase rent 2-5% above inflation. Strict rent control in Ontario is discouraging land owners and developers from maintaining quality units for tenants. Tenants are discouraged from moving without losing their rent controlled apartment, creating toxic relationships between tenants and landlords. The result is less affordable housing, and housing in poor repair for low income Ontarians.

Support Construction of Privately Funded, Publicly Sold Apartments

Home prices and rents are rising across Ontario, and are putting huge pressure on the affordability of living in the province; in major urban areas costs are completely out of control.

I am proposing a for-profit program with a guaranteed return of 5% for investors, which will cover its own costs, and put significant downward pressure on the current cost of condos and apartments in urban areas. This program will involve... more »

Eliminate Property Taxes

Let's get rid of property taxes and replace them with a mix of increased income and sales taxes which would be more progressive, fairer and less divisive.

Currently the main source of municipal revenue is property taxes. This presents a lot of problems, both for the city and it's residents. First of all, property taxes hit seniors hardest! Just because you own a valuable piece of property does not mean you are well... more »

The ingredients needed can be extracted from sea water... more »

Alternative to higher minimum wage

I agree that our present minimum wage does not meet the needs of those earning it. I do not agree with a rise to this. And my reasons are because 1. Their income will be too high to qualify for assistance with child care, subsidized housing etc. 2. Cost of Needed prescriptions, eye glasses, dental care etc will still need to be their burdon at 100%. My suggestion is this: Have all employers provide each worker... more »

A New and Fairer Lottery for Ontario

The existing lotteries in Ontario offer very poor odds and due to their bi-weekly or instant nature draw people into an addictive and often dangerously expensive habit.

Therefore the Government of Ontario should create a Premium Bond Lottery as exists in the United Kingdom as part of the UK government's National Savings and Investments scheme. As in the UK the government would promise to buy back the bond, on request,... more »
