Inclusive and Just Society

Although the province is growing, not everyone feels included in that increased prosperity. The Ontario Liberal Party believes that everyone should have the opportunity to realize their full potential in an inclusive and just society. We still have lots of work to do to ensure everyone has a fair chance in our society. So we need you best ideas.

Inclusive and Just Society

End Ontario's Breed Ban. Remove all Breed Specific Language in the Ontario Dog Owner's Liability Act.

Ontarian's want fair, just and effective legislation when it comes to our animals. Discriminating and profiling dogs based only on appearance is draconian at best and does not decrease dog bites nor promote public safety. The current ban was pushed forward against all professional advice and evidence shows breed bans do not work. Thousands of good family dogs have been victimized. Thousands of responsible dog owners ...more »

Raise Ontario Works Rates to Encourage Living With Dignity

On the path to a Universal Basic Income in Ontario (which is still many years away), it's important to raise up those experiencing poverty by increasing the Ontario Works amounts to a reasonable threshold. Currently only $721 is given monthly ($337 basic needs + $384 shelter) to a single individual, for example, which in most cities and towns is woefully inadequate to survive. Linking OW rates to a reasonable percentage ...more »

We need the Pharma-care Bill supported and passed today

Canadian overall drug costs are the second highest in the world next to the USA. We have the only national healthcare plan without national Pharma-care and our pharmaceutical industry level of R&D is minuscule, the lowest investment compared to all other OECD countries. Pharmaceutical company profits are spectacular in Canada. Are these facts related? You bet! Pharma-care will give us affordable drugs and save us Billions ...more »

Add Dental Care to OHIP

Vulnerable Canadians with difficulty accessing dental care are also those with the most dental pain, the greatest difficulty eating a healthy diet and the ones with the highest levels of gum disease, which in turn can increase their risk for general health problems, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. In other words, those who need dental care the most are the least likely to be able to get it, and the ones ...more »

Name Blind Resumes

Creating a system, at least within government, if not for all employers so that resumes are not identified by name. It could be an anonymous number attached. That way, there would be no discrimination based on gender, race or culture.

Criminal Justice Reform

Ontario's criminal courts need modernizing. There are too many people in Ontario's provincial prison system. Our reoffending rates are terrible and our provincial prisons, many of them old and squalid, are in crisis – overcrowded and woefully understaffed, with drug abuse, violence, suicide and self-harm at endemic levels. The Toronto South Detention Centre is a case in point. That is why I believe that the Government ...more »

Bring fairness to Family Law System

make changes to the family law system to produce a more equitable and unbiased process so as to grossly lessen the financial and catastrophic stress levels of many of our female and male single parents and our single-parent-home students. Rationale: Currently, many single parents and students in single-parent-homes are dealing with prolific levels of stress and financial burden due to how expensive, obscenely protracted, ...more »
