Enlarge the provincial legislature

Ontario currently has the greatest number of constituents per provincial riding of any province, with Québec possessing a larger legislature in spite of containing approximately two thirds the population. Enlarging the provincial legislature would reduce the disparity between popular vote for each party and each party's representation in the legislature, and reduce the influence of "special interests" (due to elected... more »

Enfranchise those aged 16-18

There are complaints of the lack of political participation of the younger demographic. School is highly anti-democratic while teaching civics courses which supposedly support democracy. Those aged 16-18 are permitted to earn an income, drive an automobile, serve in the military and participate in political nomination and leadership elections, amongst other rights, so why shouldn't they be enfranchised? The same arguments... more »

Stop Religious Discrimination in Ontario Public Schools

If Ontario honestly wants to be an inclusive and just society, our school system must stop discriminating based on a faith.

Public elementary Catholic schools in Ontario deny admission to non-Catholics. Public Catholic schools deny teaching opportunities to non-Catholics based solely on faith. These are unacceptable and completely contrary to the expectation of an inclusive society.

*** Religious Discrimination... more »

Mandatory Voting

I don't know all the statistics on if it's a good idea or bad. I just feel that it's all our civic duty to vote.

Those who say that there's no one they want to vote for; well how about the party and their ideas? Can you vote for that?

As well, there's always the option to "decline to vote". Go to your polling station and say you decline. The polling officer marks that down and you're done. At least doing this allows... more »

Elizabeth Day as a Non-statutory holiday

The role of the Crown is both legal and practical; it functions in Ontario in the same way it does in all of Canada's other provinces, being the centre of a constitutional construct in which the institutions of government acting under the sovereign's authority share the power of the whole. It is thus the foundation of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of the province's government. The Canadian monarch—since  ... more »

Institute a Maximum Income Tax in Ontario

In Ontario, and more broadly in Canada, there is one group of people who are viewed as not paying their fair share of the staggering costs of government. This group is labeled and discriminated against in many ways, especially economically but also morally. These Ontarians pay their way more than five times over, yet are still told they do not pay enough. This minority group is targeted by governments and lobby groups,... more »

Unleash the human potential of aboriginal people

I have thought for some time of how our aboriginal people have been offered and have accepted bad deals. Treaties were signed before aboriginals could truly understand the importance of individual rights and freedoms and also the incredible value of being a full participant in a modern society. Stuck in the poverty trap of the reservation system, many of these people produce little and consume much. it is a soul-destroying... more »

Restore the right to work and justice in the workplace

This idea encompasses the major discussion categories of "Inclusive Growth", Strong Sustainable Communities", "Affordable Cost of Living" and "Inclusive and Just Society."

The most crucial and fundamental role of an elected government is to clarify and defend the rights of citizens. During the 1800s when classical liberalism took hold for the first time in history, workers found better and better jobs, the poverty rate... more »

Legalize all Drugs

Ontario should decriminalize and eventual legalize of all drugs as evidence around the world shows that taking away the criminal element can reduce drug use and deaths.

In 2001, Portugal decriminalized small possession and use of all drugs, which led to a decrease in teen drug use, drug overdoses and deaths, and criminal penalties dropped by 60 per cent.

For too long policy makers have used prohibition as a smoke screen... more »

Senate referendum in next general provincial election

Even though the senate is federal jurisdiction, the federal government may modify its view if the residents of the most populous province, containing 38.3% of the population of Canada, are supportive of abolishing the senate, where 22.9% of the seats are allocated to Ontario. The constitution prevents any province from having fewer MPs than the number of senators, so the continuation of the senate effectively discriminates... more »

Equality of condition

Equality of Condition
We must begin our endeavour toward inclusive prosperity with agreement that the most important consideration is the equality of condition among all Ontarians. We must believe in the inherent good of people; and that given the conditions of an equal and fair choice every person will exercise that goodness.

The government of Ontario should immediately introduce a Social Credit for every Ontarian.... more »

Lower the Voting Age to 16

There seems something immoral and unjust to me about allowing young people to work, pay income tax and drive a car as well as operate a speed boat by the age of 16, but not to give them a say in how our province is operated. They can contribute to the provincial economy but have no say in how their taxes are used. They trusted to drive heavy and potentially deadly vehicles as well as operate hazardous machinery from the... more »
