Restrict the production of "McMansions"

Developers in Ontario have stopped delivering housing that matches the needs of Canadians, and have resorted to packing in as much house per square meter as possible.

I propose creating a structural limit within each lot so to not exceed 70% of the land parcel in order to preserve the affordability, and aesthetic quality of the area. The phrase "McMansion" can be said to describe most of these new subdivisions, and... more »

Encourage companies to allow employees to have flexible working arrangements when possible (similar to UK)

To encourage better quality of life due to reduced commutes, more time with families, less stress on the environment from traffic, and partially avoid the need to continue to build more highways and upgrading transit. Many companies have the technical capability to allow flexible arrangements but do not offer them due to traditional thinking. There is a program in the UK that does this now. https://www.gov.uk/flexible-working... more »

Teaching good behaviour

I have an important observation and some sound advice: In quite a few constituencies, the nomination contest gets sickening with a focus on finding contestant's faults. Generally speaking, people want to rise by pulling down others which is not a fair game - those who pull down others are weak candidates and they can not win on their own strength. I strongly suggest that the Liberal Party should first teach the contestants... more »

Permit municipal gas tax for public transit

Montréal, Vancouver and Victoria impose 3¢/L, 17¢/L and 3.5¢/L municipal excise taxes on gasoline, respectively, to fund public transit. This results in more compact land use (resulting in lower cost to provide government services), makes active transportation and public transit more competitive, reduce the pressure to use fares, sales, income or property taxes to fund transportation, and reduce air and noise pollution... more »

Revisit the Allen Expressway

The Allen Expressway is a short expressway, super 4 expressway, and arterial road in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It starts as a controlled access expressway at Eglinton Avenue West north to Transit Road, then continues as a super 4 expressway north to De Boers Drive, and afterwards continues as an arterial road north to Kennard Avenue, where it continues north as the northern portion of Dufferin Street.

It was only partially... more »

SUPPORTING SMALL BUSINESS WITH GOVERNMENT PROCUREMENT

The Government of Ontario should be reinvesting tax dollars back into Ontario communities by supporting made-in-Ontario products and services when possible.

The Government of Ontario should be supporting jobs by engaging in strategic government procurement from small and medium sized businesses using community benefit agreements. The Government of Ontario should NOT be procuring goods and services from businesses in... more »

Freecycling Days!

It is the stated objective of all of our levels of government to encourage the recycling and reuse of manufactured goods.

Yet many municipalities in the Province of Ontario make it illegal to both put out household items to be given away for reuse and make it illegal to take items from the "garbage".

As a result many perfectly reusable household items end up in landfill.

In part our culture of destructive and rampant... more »

Keep it in the community

I believe any not for profit services should build there own community before moving to another. Community doors should be free to access for any activity, service or event. Less entrepreneurs and students are taking advantage of connecting with their neighbors because of high cost for the use of community centers. These centers should be free access with a percentage based on earning. Many have great ideas however they... more »

Wind turbines are not green energy

The fact that wind turbines are not green needs to be recognized by the ontario government and cancell all contracts for turbines that have not yet been built. So much fossel fuel is used in the construction, transportation and installation of wind turbines that they will never produce enough renewable energy to cover what they consumed before they become operational. That does not take into account the carbon emitions... more »

Go train east

How does the GO train stop in Oshawa. The routes north and west are way longer. Thousands drive in from Cobourg and port hope every day because there is only one Via rail in the morning that gets downtown around 10am. That’s not working hours. The people to the east are severely short in their GO service compared to the rest of the Greater GTA.

Stop the plastic problem!

Enact legislation and regulations that limit or eliminate single-use plastic and ensure that even recyclable plastic does not end up in our beautiful lakes, rivers and oceans. Companies need to recognize and promote alternative products and we as consumers need to limit use of plastic that is destroying the mother earth!
