A Culture of Health

The Ontario Liberal Party is committed to building a healthy society that provides the care people need and promotes healthy living at all ages. We have built our health-care system back up and we are now focused on making the system even better by improving access to care, enhancing the patient experience and expanding access to prescription drugs. As we move forward with an ambitious plan to build a healthier society, we need your best ideas about how to improve the patient experience and encourage the people of Ontario to live healthy lives.

Cannabinoid retail

When it becomes legal next July, Marijuana should not be sold through a government monopoly! Distribution of this legal product should be provided by the existing dispensaries albeit Provincially licenced and regulated! The Ontario government should not be setting up their own monopoly!! Include the Mom and Pop shops in your plans! The monopoly plan is doomed to failure with too few retail outlets (40) to start!

INVEST IN PARAMEDICS & AMBULANCE SYSTEM

Why not adjust budgets to better address the needs of emergency services?
Lack of ambulance coverage is occurring all over the province. Wait times are increasing and response times are being affected. We need more ambulances on the road and funding for community paramedicine programs to help alleviate the strain on hospitals. Ambulance Paramedics are fundamental to saving lives. The government’s stated goal is to “improve... more »

Pass bill 71: the Lung Health Act

Ontarians with lung disease and their families need access to education and rehab to help manage their disease. Bill 71 is a step in the right direction, but there hasn’t been any new action on it since 2016. Please give this important piece of legislation the attention necessary to allow educators the resources needed to make a real difference to the many people living with COPD, asthma and other lung disease.

Make Organ Donation Universal with opt-out system

Right now, people in Canada have to register as organ donors to be recognized as a donor.
Ontario should move to an opt-out system. The evidence is clear - people are patiently waiting for organs and tissues which could significantly improve lives but many are let down by our current system. There is correlation between countries having a donor opt-out system and having a higher number of organ donations. In "opt-out"... more »

Funding for Mental Health

Mental health services are chronically underfunded - many people with mental health care needs are NOT able to access services unless they can afford to pay high fees in the private sector. Early recognition, access to treatment, and supports for people before their concerns become crises (or mental health concerns escalate) are necessary to support a healthy Ontario.

Expanding O.H.I.P. coverage to include facial feminization & full breast augmentation to disabled poor trans women on O.D.S.P.

When I first wrote this I had high thoughts that Canada was far different, far more compassionate towards the downtrodden than our American cousins - I was dreadfully wrong.

I wrote this after seeing so many trans women become forced to enter the sex trade, many either dying at the hands of johns, pimps, or by their own hands.

Worse were those who are disabled, where no employer would hire them due to their own internal... more »

Create a Minister of State/Minister Responsible for Addictions and Mental Health

A separate minister would better be able to focus on these pivotal issues and help finish implementation of the Health Ministry's Open Minds, Healthy Minds long term strategy.

More funding for special education.

With teachers being physically hurt and classmates having to endure violent outbursts the time has come to either review the old funding model or maybe remove the repeat offenders if there is not resources available to help them.

Emergency Services for Borderline Personality Disorder

Save lives with emergency crisis services for Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). BPD, more common than schizophrenia and bipolar, affects up to 6% of the population, with 10% of affected people committing suicide, yet there is very limited, if any, assistance in emergency departments when in crisis.
