Eliminate Property Taxes

Let's get rid of property taxes and replace them with a mix of increased income and sales taxes which would be more progressive, fairer and less divisive. Currently the main source of municipal revenue is property taxes. This presents a lot of problems, both for the city and it's residents. First of all, property taxes hit seniors hardest! Just because you own a valuable piece of property does not mean you are well ...more »

Lifelong Learning

Teacher Education

I think that we would see a great improvement in student learning if the requirements for becoming a teacher were more stringent. For a number of Faculties of Education, a university student must have only a C+ average in their university courses in order to be eligible to apply for a teaching degree. Once in the Faculty of Education, the student teachers are required to just pass their courses and complete their practical ...more »

Inclusive Growth

Greater Toronto Hamilton Area Opportunities Agency

The Government of Ontario should create a dedicated regional economic development agency to address unemployment and underemployment in the Greater Toronto Hamilton Area (GTHA). This regional economic development agency would operate along the lines of the already existing Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation - and be responsible for helping to create opportunities for economic growth in the populous GTHA by ...more »

Lower Auto Insurance Rates

We currently have the most expensive auto insurance premiums in Canada despite also having one of the lowest levels of accidents and fatalities. The average auto insurance premium in Ontario is $1,458, which is almost 55 per cent higher than the average of all other Canadian jurisdictions. Public auto insurance programs, such as those in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, take a different approach. Standard rates apply to every ...more »

Overhaul the Interest Arbitration System to Benefit Communities, Not Individuals

Emergency services workers – police and firefighters – are valued municipal employees who ensure community health and safety in all Ontario municipalities. Because these essential workers are not allowed to strike, the collective bargaining process relies on arbitration to resolve differences if a settlement cannot be reached. Current inequities in interest arbitration cast a shadow over all collective bargaining with ...more »

Enlarge the provincial legislature

Ontario currently has the greatest number of constituents per provincial riding of any province, with Québec possessing a larger legislature in spite of containing approximately two thirds the population. Enlarging the provincial legislature would reduce the disparity between popular vote for each party and each party's representation in the legislature, and reduce the influence of "special interests" (due to elected ...more »

Jobs for the Homeless

Many people would rather work then ask for money. By creating a program in which those who otherwise rely on panhandling can get paid to clean the streets. We as a province can team up and significantly decrease the homeless population by providing them with jobs they really truly need!

Ban Negative Ads

Not sure if this is possible. Should be a moral choice. Negative ads work sadly, but it lowers the bar for debating real issues. Mudslinging dirties the thrower and receiver... a pox on both our houses.

Election ads should be about the party, their ideas, and what they would do, not that the other parties are doing worst. A "lesser of two/three evils" if you will.

Give the Carbon Tax Funds Back to Citizens

Give all of the revenue from the carbon fee back to households. 100% of the revenue from the carbon fee is held in a Carbon Fees Trust fund and returned directly to households as a monthly dividend. The vast majority of households will receive more than they will pay for increased energy costs. This feature will inject billions into the economy, protect family budgets, free households to make independent choices about ...more »

A Culture of Health

More funding for special education.

With teachers being physically hurt and classmates having to endure violent outbursts the time has come to either review the old funding model or maybe remove the repeat offenders if there is not resources available to help them.

Create a tribunal to police the ethics of municipal politicians and councils

Improper use of in-camera sessions of municipal councils. Conflict of interest allegations. Ethical violations by municipal councils. Rob Ford! For the last few years there have been mayors and councillors across the province who have been in trouble for ethics issues or abuses of power. Yet the court system is expensive for citizens to hold someone like rob Ford accountable, councillors should not be voting on their ...more »
